We remember Sr. Joan Stanczak

Sister Joan Stanczak entered eternal life on October 29, 2016, after 77 years professed with the Sisters of the Divine Savior. Sr. Joan dedicated 33 years to education as a teacher and principal, including at Divine Savior High School and Mother of Good Counsel Parish School in Milwaukee. She also taught in Landover Hills, Md., and at St. Margaret Mary School in Chicago during the five years she was also caring for her mother.

Sr. Joan completed her studies in Milwaukee, earning a bachelor’s degree from Mount Mary College, and a master’s degree in theology from Marquette University. In 1975, she refocused her ministry to providing pastoral care. She earned a Clinical Pastoral Education certificate, and served 10 years as director of pastoral care at the former St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Milwaukee. After moving to our Salvatorian Sisters Residence in 2001, Sr. Joan continued to serve the community by providing various pastoral services.

Sr. Joan was born October 6, 1920 and entered the Sisters of the Divine Savior in 1937.  We celebrated her life of service with a Mass of Christian Burial on November 2, Feast of All Souls. She was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee on November 3.  Memorial gifts in Sister Joan’s name may be sent to the Sisters of the Divine Savior, 4311 N. 100th St., Milwaukee, WI 53222.
