Our world moves into the season of less daylight and greater darkness. It too, is the darkness of infectious disease with few defenses for children or adults. It comes to us through our television and computer. Our hearts grow heavy, burdened by terrible misfortune in African countries. Young adults living in Hong Kong show their personal courage and stamina as they witness to a future of shared democracy. The darkness of China’s refusal that will overwhelm these youth is felt by those of us living distant from them, yet we unite in prayer for their safe passage. We pray to remember God is greater than darkness in all its forms and guides the hearts and minds of great leaders and lives of the poor. We pray with boundless hope and trust in God’s compassion on all of us.
